The Blackford County Extension Chorus entertains at local retirement homes, church and community programs, county extension club programs and occasionally the local Cowboy Church in Hartford City. The ladies perform at local festivals including the Washington Street Festival in Muncie and the Fiber Fair in Jay County. Historical, and sometimes hysterical, highlights include being chosen to perform their rendition of “Chiquita Banana” during an annual Melody Makers concert. (The chuckles from the audience as the 8-foot inflatable palm tree arose from the orchestra pit complete with bananas and bongos will ever stay with the director.) The chorus was also sprinkled with Holy Water as they sang during the blessing of the new addition of the John 23rd Retreat Center in Hartford City in March, 2009. Five chorus members are serving as 2009-10 officers for Blackford County extension clubs as president, treasurer, secretary, historian, and education chairman! The Blackford County Chorus rehearses the first and third Monday evenings at Zion Lutheran Church, 3 blocks southeast of SR 26 & 3. The chorus is accompanied by Gail Dimmick, church musician, and directed by Karen Bartling, Muncie area performer and private music teacher. Ladies from Blackford and surrounding counties are encouraged to join us! ***Accompanist Gail has been a marvelous help with rehearsals when the director is unavailable. Unfortunately, she is on indefinite leave. The chorus is not looking to replace her, but would appreciate a pianist to help with rehearsals until she can return.*** |
