We are very glad you have decided to come to Workshop and we thought there were some things you might like to know. Of course if you have any questions, you can always e-mail us at: info@melodymakersofindiana.com or feel free to call Joyce Jones (574-223-6393). We suggest that you send e-mail as often as possible in order to get a quick answer. Getting Workshop planned and ready is a busy time for our Board. DATE & CHECK-IN TIME 7/27/10 Director or person representing the Director should arrive and be checked into Hillenbrand Residence Hall between 1:00 and 2:00 (EST). There is a Map link to the Hall at the bottom of this page. There will be a table in the lounge to the left of the main desk in Hillenbrand Residence Hall where you can check in with the Melody Makers as you register for your room. This year there will be a Directors Forum. The Forum will include a list of suggestions, ideas, goodies, etc. 7/28/10 Workshop Attendees should check into Hillenbrand Residence Hall between 8:30 - 9:30 A.M. (EST). There is a Map link to the Hall at the bottom of this page. There will be a Registration Table in the Lounge to the left of the main Hillenbrand desk to register with the Melody Makers as well as the Residence Hall. After you check in with the Melody Makers and receive your packet, the Residence Hall Staff will issue you a room key and a lunch card for meals. Lunch will be provided on the day you arrive. We will have our annual meeting on this day. We will also have MMIA shirts for sale as well as other goodies. So bring some extra cash! PARKING You may drive up to the front of the building and unload your suitcases but there will not be anyone to watch them while you park. You may also park in the Parking Garages marked on the map at no cost. Both garages will be open but there will be restricted “A parking” on the 1st level. “A parking” is a sticker that people purchase to park on campus. It might be part or all of the 1st level. DO NOT PARK IN ANY “A” PARKING. YOU WILL GET A TICKET!!! We should be able to use parking places in the garage that will be labeled as 'Student Parking'. If anything has changed about parking, it will be updated here. and marked as new information. Also all Local Contacts will be notified. If you park in the garage, you may come into the dorm and retrieve a luggage carrier to help get your things. Please do not park in the front of the building long enough to check into your room. MEALS All meals are provided and the food is wonderful! You will be issued a meal card when you check into your room. Workshop Attendees eat meals together in the Cafeteria. This year your packet will contain an agenda. This will give you an idea of Cafeteria Hours and when we will eat (very important of course!). The cafeteria is not open all of the time so we have to eat on schedule. Please make sure you don’t miss breakfast. You’ll need breakfast for all of the singing you’ll do all day. WHAT IS PROVIDED IN THE ROOM Hillenbrand is a Residence Hall that Purdue students use during the school year. A bed and bedding is provided as well as towels and washcloths. There is a sink and medicine cabinet for each person in the room. You will be sharing a bathroom with Workshop Attendees in the adjoining room. There is a desk and a light for each person, plenty of closet space (only 3 hangers though) and drawers. There is a phone in the room to use for local or “room to room” calls as well as any number that is toll free. However, if you want to make any long distance calls; you will need to use a phone card or your own cell phone. What you should bring Toilet articles, bar of soap or liquid soap, alarm clock, and plastic cup for taking medicines in the night, extra sweater. Make sure you have a pencil and highlighter with you for practices. WHAT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO BRING BUT IS NOT REQUIRED Nightlite or small flashlight, Xtra hangers, Xtra pillow or cover, umbrella (we do have to do some walking between buildings), any special needs type of articles. There is no refrigerator in the room but you can get ice in the basement of Hillenbrand. You cannot buy snacks at the cafeteria. There are vending machines in the basement of Hillenbrand. However…you might like to have a “candy bar” hidden in your bags or bring a few snacks. You might want something to hold water for rehearsals too. ATTIRE Casual clothes and comfortable shoes. This is definitely not a fashion show Workshop. BANQUET THEME Singing and learning so much music so quickly is fun, but it’s hard work too. So each year we kick off our shoes and have a little fun at what we call the Banquet. This year the theme is "Hawaiian Luau". Click Here to see
It’s a special evening meal. This year we will “dine” at Hillenbrand. The food is excellent and everyone dresses a little for the theme. Bring your Hawaiian garb and use your imagination! Do “as much as” or “as little as” you want. The most important point of the Banquet is to enjoy the people and of course…the food!
